Thanks to the Straits Times, we’ve a first look into the set and filming of the new upcoming World War II Movie Anthropoid.

This new upcoming movie will tell the incredible story of a remarkable operation that took place in 1942 in Czechoslovakia. Anthropoid is based on a true event, Operation Anthropoid which was the code name for the assassination of SS-Obergruppenführer and General der Polizei Reinhard Heydrich, head of the Reichssicherheitshauptamt (Reich Main Security Office, RSHA), the combined security services of Germany, and acting Reichsprotektor of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

The operation was carried out in Prague by Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš on 27 May 1942 after having been prepared by the British Special Operations Executive with the approval of the Czechoslovak government-in-exile. Although only wounded in the attack, Heydrich died of his injuries on 4 June 1942.

His death led to a wave of merciless reprisals by German SS troops, including the destruction of villages and the killing of civilians. An estimate of 5,000 people were executed.

The movie Anthropoid is now shooting on location in the Czech Republic. The project has attracted an exciting array of some of Europe’s most talented actors, which include Toby Jones (Infamous, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything, Game of Thrones), Bill Milner (X-Men: First Class, Son of Rambow), Alena Mihulova (Krava, Nevinnost) and Sam Keeley (Adam Jones, Jadotville). They join Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey, The Fall), Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders, Inception), Charlotte Le Bon (Yves Saint Laurent, Bastille Day) and Anna Geislerová (Something Like Happiness, Zelary).
